Who
Are We?
The Word of God is an
ecumenical, charismatic, missionary Christian community -- Christians
from many different church backgrounds who have experienced new life in
Jesus Christ and the empowering of his Holy Spirit. Now we are trying
to support each other in our daily lives and to reach out to help
others to come to know Christ and be filled with His Spirit.
A
Little Background
The Word of God began in
1967 as an evangelistic outreach to students at the University of Michigan. Initially the group
was made up of Catholics, but as the Holy Spirit began to work, people
from all Christian backgrounds or no Christian background began to
respond. Now Presbyterians, Lutherans, Baptists, as well as Catholics
and others all join together to express the unity we share in Christ as
members of The Word of God. This experience of unity flowing out of our
renewed relationship with Christ continues to be a key element of our
identity and our mission.
Since
those early days, God has graciously worked through the community to
bring hundreds of people into a vital relationship with His Son Jesus
and to be filled with His Holy Spirit.
